SEWING STARTER

*No experience is required, complete beginners*

This sewing workshop is for the complete beginner, it will look at your sewing machine and how to get started with it (Don't worry if you don't have your own sewing machine as we have a few machines to use & can give advice on your perfect starter machine before taking the plunge to buy one)

What will we do:

In this session we will look at the basic anatomy of the machine, what it can actually do and getting comfortable in starting to sew with it. You will learn how to thread it from scratch, how to fill a spool, check your tensions, switch between different stitches, including a buttonhole function and know what the different stitch types would be be used for. Once all threaded up and sewing correctly we will go over some basic machine control exercises. Techniques & Tips of sewing with your machine to give you the confidance to start your sewing journey. At the end of this session you will have hopefully familiarised yourselves with your own machine to then move on to one of our Sample Development or Beginners Sewing projects workshops .

You will need:

-We do have some machines but you may want to bring your own sewing machine if preferred to learn more about it, with it's foot pedal (which is always useful), instruction manual (if you have one) and a sewing machine tool kit (usually comes with the machine) which should include, spare needles, screw driver or alan key, spools & spool case (if it isn't a top loading machine) etc

-We have the tea, coffee & biccies sorted oh and the view so feel free to bring your lunch or anything specific needed for your own dietary requirements.

Our She Shed studio is equipped with a toilet & kitchen facilities (microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge etc) & free parking on site.
